Fairview Fire and Rescue is a prominent department in Erie County with many personnel highly trained in the specialized skills for High-angle rescues. We are frequently called upon to respond as part of the county “Ropes Team” for such emergencies because of the abundance of equipment we possess.
In order to uphold the safety of both our personnel and those in need of rescue, it is crucial that we regularly replace outdated and worn equipment. However, the rising costs of goods and services make it necessary for emergency agencies to explore alternative sources of funding for equipment replacements and upgrades. Fortunately, numerous corporations and service organizations allocate a portion of their budgets each year for charitable contributions for projects such as these.
This year Fairview Fire and Rescue was the beneficiary of grants from Costco and CSX Transportation to replace some of our aging equipment as well as purchase additional equipment to enhance service to our community and county. We purchased additional rope rescue harnesses and accessories as well as replaced outdated rope and replaced a stokes basket.
These tools are highly versatile and can be utilized in various situations where a patient must be transported over rugged terrain to safety, in addition to their usefulness in high-angle rescues. Although we hope to never have to use them in emergency situations, we make sure to undergo regular training and remain fully prepared in the event that such circumstances arise.
