This week marks the 100th anniversary of recognizing a specific week to make efforts to increase awareness and education for the public. Fire Departments all over make efforts throughout the entire year to spread education and awareness of what to do in the event of an emergency, but this is a week when the public gets more involved than the rest of the year.

The National Fire Protection Association has many resources available that can be downloaded and used in the classroom or at home (NFPA Resources). Members of the Fairview community are always welcome to stop by the fire station (7190 West Ridge Rd) and take a tour of the station, look at the equipment me use, get to know our personnel and ask any questions they many have. The best time is Wednesday evenings at 7 PM when we have our weekly training sessions.

Thanks to the efforts of fire safety initiatives all over, the rate of house fires, fire related injuries and deaths have siginifacantly decreased over the last 30 years.

Today, the leading cause of fires in the home is cooking related fires.
